Chaos Chaos All Around
Hmmm…how come every time lately I write something as I’m writing the headline my eye notices the time in the corner and its always a repetitive pattern of number 9:11, 11:11 are the ones i see the most.
Yesterday we did the 11:11 and now 9:11, interesting.
Anyways! You know that feeling when you go to gym after a year of being inactive, how sore your body feels the next day?
Yeah that’s exactly how I woke up today! Absolutely destroyed! That when I stood from bed I couldn’t walk properly 😂 yeah you can imagine then what mess I got myself into the day before….sigh.
Anyways lazy day, I was in a daze for the most of it, made it to breakfast before it was over by 10…then went back to my room and was in a haze where I’m unable to sleep and I can’t wake up…so basically i existed in darkness for the majority of my day, then starved because I didn’t even eat anything the day before! So i dragged myself down to a restaurant I saw on google maps high reviews right next to me and looked local homey vibes, take a look
And he’s a Muslim so when he knew I’m from Syria, which btw not everyone knows where Syria is and most think I’m saying “Serbia” due to my look, as the media showed them Syrians look anything but like me.
You know years ago I used to say I’m from Dubai, sometimes jordan, or whatever anything but Syria because I can’t be bothered when I’m on a vacation for someone to say:
Ahhh bashar al asad, how is the war situation in syria??
Dude it happened to me in Thailand I was doing that healing hands whatever its called where blind people do the massage and the old man who was doing it doesnt even speak english and the bro can’t see, and mid session he asked:
Where from?
I say syria.
He say:
Ohhh bashar al asad…boom boom 😂😂
And there goes my hour of peace…😩
But i stopped doing that when I noticed how everyone thinks I’m lebanese, no no fuck that shit! I’d never be associated with the neighbours that hate us the most. So i started saying Syria and not even mentioning Dubai unless if the convo flows and it reaches how hard is it to come to here from Syria, then I drop the disclaimer.
You see its so sad that people think Syrians look like the terrorist you see in movies, and that is even when the old gov, can you imagine now? When we are truly run by a terrorist? Wild!
So yeah I say I’m syrian even if I’ll be bombarded, id rather educate them about us, our culture and how beautiful the heritage, history and food that we have, over saying some other country (even if it means my peace of mind)
So I told the guy that runs the place syria and we got talking, literally he talked to me the entire time I was eating! Didnt even feel like a Solo lunch haha, and his mom came to say hi..so cute! I love Nepali people.
Apparently he was a chef in Dubai working at the Grand Hyatt for one year and came back to Nepal for vacation and the war happened and they fired him, yikes! But he is lucky he was here already and also that he have a restaurant here, even though its tiny (three tables) but i think its enough to support the family and the food is delishhhhh, actually lets give them a shoutout, who knows maybe I blow up one day and people start reading everything I write and they can come visit this restaurant 😂
Google MapsFind local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.maps.app.goo.gl
Then I went for a walk during sunset and I just love the chaos! The colors of the place! The loudness! I’m not saying I love to live in that 24/7 but I love to be in places where there’s “Life” and that is life at its finest, people chilling in the square, old people gathered in the tiny temple for their daily singing sangha, kids playing, motor cycles beeping you out of the way (and bumping you few times)…yeah I love it!
But weirdly I attracted way too many scammers than the usual, like usually they just say hello waiting to see if any response, but today in a span of half an hour 4 actually came and walked with me trying to start the typical shenanigans of acting like a friendly local and then starting to promote whether places to eat (commission), tours (commission), mandala art (commission)…yeah can’t be arsed, so I cut them off.
I guess its the full black fit that i was wearing with my NY cap…ngl I looked cute haha.
Then I had enough from the chaos and I went to chill at my favorite cafe Himalayan Java, which there’s a gazillion branches as its like the Nepali Starbucks, but I like the ones that are big and vibey and it was filled with people on their laptops as it does have coworking spaces and whatnot, guess that will be my go-to for the week as I should start working tomorrowwwwww.
And now I’m in bed, chaos inside of me as my system is in a shock from the hell I made it go through the last 2 days because i left a month worth of work until the last 2 days, and chaos outside…but I love it!
When I was walking today i felt so happy that i know my way around! Like i know the places without a map (even in dubai i use a map and i lived there for 10 years) but here because i walk everywhere, like when i check a place and it shows 30–40 mins, easy peasy i just start walking and even longer once when I came here with a friend we went from Thamel which is central to waaaay up the mountain where there was a monastery maybe it was called Kopan I can’t be bothered to google, anyways that was few hours walk and it was okay, so I don’t mind walking at all, actually I look forward to it,
When you walk and you get lost you get to stumble across things that you would never see if you always go from point a to b using uber.
Like that walk with my friend we saw a mango cart that looked soo delish! And even his hands were dirty (street vendor) we just said Bismellah and we munched down like a full bag of mangoes for dirty cheap, like we literally stood there next to him, he didnt have a knife so we ripped the peel of it with our teeth and we started eating like savages 😂 and trust me that friend in Dubai is sooo not like that! She now have a high position at PWC, and she is french educated and shit…but I think I can be very convincing with my “come onnnnn whats the worst thing that can happen!!! Look how delish they are! Try once and if you don’t like I’ll eat the rest” hahahah
Good times! I love Nepal!
First time: Came Solo and it was the first time I ever travel for fun solo.
Second time: Came with that friend who was actually my colleague at the agency back then.
Third time: came for my birthday solo and volunteered to build a school in a remote area
Fourth time: brought my bestie during Covid and we backpacked all across.
Fifth time: which is few months ago ended up in Kanyam, the place that one day I’ll build a home in, and then went to the Osho Ashram which was soo not part of my plan.
Sixth time: this time 😉 got no plan, I just want to live in a place that makes me happy and work on my business.
I just love everything about it, even though yesterday when I landed and I wanted to send the kids a video of the way…i had to do a disclaimer, like guys I know this looks like a very poor place but trust me its amazing!
Because those privileged pricks when i take them to karama in Dubai they look at the buildings and be like…so pooor! These people are soo poor😭
So imagine…Kathmandu!
But I work so hard on trying to open their minds, like yes its poor, yes it may be dirty but can you see how amazing that temple is???? And then if i link it to a story that blows their mind, then they stop seeing the negatives.
Like I would have never imagined for the life of me that the kiddos would be so open minded to try new foods and few days ago i wanted to take dad to try Pothi Biryani the one that comes in a banana leaf, and the kids tagged along skeptical but ended up eating all of it! And celine saying:
That is the best food I had, even better than:
Yabra’ (vine leaves — which is her favorite)
And yesterday when she was dropping to the airport she said, I want to travel with you and I want to try allllll the fooods!!!
And you have nooooo idea how much that makes me happy, because that right here is my positive impact on them, as they are very privileged very spoiled, and their mom and dad hangs out with the elites…so the kids don’t really get to experience what real life is like, except when they hang out with me and I take them places that even their parents dont know or would never try.
So yeah even though I hate ipads for kids, but having that group family on Imessages which have mom and dad and sis and the kids, is really life changing and hilarious!
Because its mostly me and the kids chitchatting but its so hilarious honestly the voice notes they send, the videos that celine takes for me, the fact that i can send them videos and pictures directly addressed to them without waiting for my sister to show them…honestly a blessing!
So yeah thats it, chaotic day, chaotic life, chaotic political situation, chaotic everything!
But there’s still peace inside. الحمدلله
Peace out!
